Faith in Love Divine

God is love and when you have Christ in your heart you have love divine. This love operates through you as you rest in his Word. You do not have to strive to obtain it, it is within you now if you are a believer. This is not so because you FEEL you have it or ACT AS IF you have it but because the Word of God says you have it. This divine love is not based on self it is based upon God's Word. It is not founded upon unreliable "feelings" or occasional good actions but it rests fairly and squarely upon the fact that God, who IS love, dwells within us.

So if your faith rests upon God's Word and you believe his love has been placed within you, then this divine love will flow through you and pour out in your actions and deeds.

Faith Operates

Look at his Word and let it bring forth divine love. You do not operate this love by yourself. You cannot produce it by striving. Faith operates love. You just rest in God's Word. Here are some scriptures upon which to base your faith - I John 4: 8. "He that loveth not knoweth not God, for GOD IS LOVE"; I John 4: 16-17, "And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is so are we in the world."

God's Word says you are in Christ. It is not because you think so but because the Word says so. God says it because it is true. In verse 18 of the above passage we read, "There is no fear in love (there is only room for faith); but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love." You see, if you fear you do not have faith in God's Word. Put your faith in the Word and KNOW that your love is perfect, just as you KNOW you are saved because the Word declares it. Then fear will be cast out.

Natural Love vs. Divine Love

Natural love is reasoned out from the mind. It is therefore limited and loves only until it is hurt. Then it will often turn to hatred. God's love is not like that. It goes beyond the understanding and cannot be reasoned out -". . . know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye may be filled with all the fulness of God. Now unto him who is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us . . ." (Eph. 3: 19-20).

So we see that only FAITH can operate this love within us, not fear. This love does not become hurt because it loves. (Only self can be hurt.) There is no self in love divine. This is why it is just not possible that reasoning and human understanding should operate such love. Faith alone can do this! (And faith means believing you have received, believing that this love IS YOURS NOW, according to God's Word.)

Seeing then that you have this love, what does it do? The classic passage on the new love is of course, I Corinthians, chapter 13. Let us consider verses 4-8, "Charity (love) suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never faileth ...
THIS is the love that is dwelling in you.

Living by Divine

Just rest in the Word and allow love to operate. Do not strive or look to yourself but simply rest in the Word and look to God. Love will then flow forth and it NEVER FAILS. What a wonderful privilege to have something which never fails. That is why we have faith in this love: we know its POWER. Love is a spiritual force which compels you to GIVE. Healing virtue flows forth from love and heals the broken spirits and sick bodies.

John 3: 16 says, "God SO LOVED the world that he GAVE ..." It is indeed a wonderful love which dwells within us.
1 Cor. 14: 1 tells us to "follow after charity ..:' That is we are to follow after love divine. Just let this love loose in you by resting in God's Word. It is not obtained by works but by GRACE OPERATING THROUGH FAITH. The "eyes" of divine love are different from the "eyes" of natural love. The "eyes" of love divine see everything through faith and from the standpoint of the righteousness we have in Christ. But the "eyes" of natural love see everything in unbelief and under condemnation from the standpoint of "trying to be." This viewpoint seriously limits natural love; we need faith in divine love for here there are no limitations.
